Everyone
says they know a Goth or two. Everyone I've met knows someone who
prefers the dark side, or at least can understand the attraction. So
where is everybody?
For
every person I meet who “knows someone like me” I meet
surprisingly few actual Goths. Searching the web only brings up a
sad collection of defunct sites, abandoned years ago. Going to the
local Goth club, I'm greeted by a vast majority of ravers and, dare I
say it, posers. Poor lost souls attending for the techno music and
cheap drinks.
So
where are all the real Goths hiding? Are we technophobes, hiding
from the vast interwebs on some fundamental principal? Have we
become so disillusioned by the club scene that we no longer even
bother going? Where is everybody!
Maybe
it's time for us to take back the night from those who don't
appreciate it's potential. A fantastic start is to become
approachable. Talk to your fellow Goths. Don't perpetuate the myth
that Goths are all stuck up snobs who only converse with their own
select crew. We all share the dark side, that's what binds us
together! That alone gives us all a great opening line.
Let's
face it Gothlings, without a solid community we are doomed to wander
alone forever and as appealing as that is, it's only fun for so long.
So spread the word and spread the love. Let's start building a
community to be proud of! Let's build a place we are excited to
visit again and again, where our like minds can expand and our dark
beauty can flourish.
